In San Francisco, sometimes it’s hard to tell at first if a huge gathering is for Halloween, Bay to Breakers, a rave, or a nationwide protest against the erosion of democracy, domestic military actions, and a menu of other complaints and alarms about the Trump administration.

On Saturday, it was the third national day of “No Kings” protests since Donald Trump was re-elected in November 2024. Organizers said there were more than 3,000 gatherings worldwide.

It’s unclear how many attended in San Francisco. There was a march up Market Street, a gathering in front of City Hall, and another at Ocean Beach to form a human billboard. Here are a few of the signs and costumes that stood out.
