It’s Wednesday, October 9.

The list of SF public schools that might close in the 2025-26 school year came out late yesterday.

SFUSD says this fate isn’t guaranteed. These schools β€” two high schools, a TK-8, and eight elementaries β€” simply meet criteria set up by the district months ago. (Critics call the selection process flawed.)

Final recommendations are due next month, with a decisive Board of Education vote Dec. 12 if current timelines stay in place.

With anxious families, teachers, and staff waiting, the list was first due Sept. 18, but SFUSD pushed it back. As Ida Mojadad reports, even after the three-week delay to get things right, the rollout was confusing β€” like many things SFUSD does these days.

Meanwhile, SF voters can have a say in how SFUSD is run. Four Board of Education seats are up for grabs in the election. We have interviews with all 11 candidates. Yes, we asked them about school closures β€” before yesterday’s list was revealed. Read on!
